We are topless baby!

Roof is off! Woohooo!!!

Lots of activity today. Lots. We got a new water line put in (at one point our entire front yard and half the street was dug up), our new sewers are going in, demo is continuing, and we have the start of framing.

Here are some pictures for your perusal:

The water line saga: a photo retrospective.

Please say a prayer that our big tree out front survives - the plumbers took out quite a few of its roots when digging for the water line. :(

Sorry I have been remiss...

There have been quite a few new developments since my last check-in - I have been delinquent with my postings. My apologies.

So, where did I leave off?

Oh yes, the foundation had been poured. Here are a few pics of that:

You can see the footprint of the double-sided fireplace:

And here is the beginning of our turret! :)

We have foundation walls!

After the foundation walls were set, they had to lay the steel beam that will support the weight of the new house. It was a precarious operation, but rather fun to watch...

Beam being lifted:

It fits!

Here are our names in the foundation. Say it with me, "Awwwwwwwww..." :)

Now here's the part where I totally suck. There was actually more progress on Friday but I forgot to take pictures. Doh! They poured the crawlspace floor on the back addition, and finished off the piers where our front and back porches will be. They also started some light demo. I will be sure to update tomorrow with the latest pictures!

Did I mention we *finally* got our full permit on Friday? Yeah, that's right. It took over 4 months to get that bad boy, almost two weeks after we were issued the foundation-only permit. Sheesh.

Anyway, next on deck is full-on demo and framing! Hopefully we'll have some dramatic pictures for you this week!

Foundation has been poured!

Sorry, I don't have any more pictures for you yet, but wanted to update anyway! They finished pouring the foundation for the addition yesterday! Monday they are going to work on the foundations for the front of the house where our front porch will be, then they'll work on roughing in the utilities. It looks like we might be able to start framing as early as the end of next week!

Woohoo!

And I have to give a shout out to our builder Bill and his wife Cyndi - after they poured the foundation yesterday, they wrote "Melissa & Jeff 2008" in the concrete! How cute is that?! We have been immortalized - or at least until our house gets torn down two hundred years from now. Sa-weet.

The footprint is visible!

We visited the job site yesterday and were amazed at the progress made! Atherton constructed temporary walls for the front of the house so they could peel back the exterior in preparation for digging the foundations for the front porch. You can see the temporary plywood walls in this picture:

They also laid the forms in back for the foundations for the addition:

It's amazing to see the footprint of our house coming together. It's going to take up a bigger portion of the lot than we realized - but that means that Jeff has less grass to cut, so he's happy. :)

Looks like this show is on the road!

P.S. Our thoughtful builder (who may or may not also be my future boss *whistles innocently*) also sent us some additional demo pictures from a couple of days ago. Check these out - very dramatic!

No more craptacular gargage!

Yesterday we said a tearful goodbye to our craptacular garage. Actually, it was like two garages and the remnants of an above-ground pool.

RIP.

Hell Hath Freezeth Over

We closed today!!

I'm on the phone with Guinness Book of World Records - I'm pretty sure that was the longest residential closing ever, clocking in at 5 days, 23 hours, and 28 minutes.

It probably took about 3 months off my life, but man am I happy. :)
